Why We Love Adding CBD Oil to Massages

For us, CBD is more than a business—it’s a lifestyle. That’s why we try to add CBD to many elements of our self-care routine. In the past, we’ve talked about the benefits of CBD and meditation. And, today, we’re going to tell you why combining CBD and massage therapy is also a special way to boost your self-care and stress relief.

How to Get a CBD Oil Massage

If you’ve ever had a massage, you know that your masseuse uses massage oil. That’s why massage therapy and CBD oil are such a great combination. You can ask your masseuse to add your dose of broad-spectrum CBD oil to your massage oil. Then, with that infusion, you can begin enjoying the combined benefits of a CBD oil massage!

Now, what are those benefits? Well, we’ll explore them in a minute. But for now, keep these ideas in the front of your mind. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a hemp-plant cannabis extract. And CBD produces effects in your body because it interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS.)

The ECS plays a lot of internal roles. It’s involved with your sleep, mood and even your muscle recovery. On its own, the ECS does a pretty good job of maintaining balance—or homeostasis—within those systems. But sometimes, it needs a little boost. And, since CBD interacts with its internal receptor network, adding this supplement to your routine can help keep you balanced.

In fact, many people take a CBD supplement to help reduce stress and anxiety. Or to help with muscle recovery, especially after a tough work out. Of course, those goals should sound familiar to massage enthusiasts. Which is why CBD oil and massages can create their own entourage effect.

CBD Oil and Massage: Working Better Together

Like we said, many people who take CBD experience effects that are similar to massage effects in their bodies. So, when you get a CBD oil massage, you can expect both experiences to be heightened. Especially in the areas of:

Stress relief and tension

On its own, a massage helps relax your muscles—and your mind. Then, when you add topical CBD to the massage, you can take that relaxation to the next level. How?

Topical CBD bypasses digestion and enters your body directly through your largest organ—your skin! At that point, it connects with your ECS receptors, which can help you naturally reduce stress. And, with 12Twenty’s THC-free CBD oil, you can enjoy those benefits without worrying about drug-tests or getting high!

Pain Management

Once you’ve injured your body, healing can be slow. This leaves many people with chronic pain. And some will turn to massage to help relieve those sore muscles.

Now, so many people experience pain relief after taking CBD. That’s because this hemp-extract has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties.[i] Which means adding CBD oil to your massage can offer instant and long-lasting pain relief. All without the need for over-the-counter or prescription pain medication!

In particular, a CBD oil massage may help people who:

1. Have post-workout soreness or muscle fatigue

2. Work from home or a desk and deal with chronic back and neck pain

3. Are living with inflamed joints or arthritis

4. Need help recovering from a muscle tear or injury

5. Have diabetes-related nerve damage from peripheral neuropathy

6. Are living with fibromyalgia

Promotes Skin Healing

On its own, massage oil can help moisturize your skin. But, by adding CBD oil to your massage, you can take that healing moisture a step further. Because CBD oil can help keep moisture in your body. Plus, research shows that CBD may actually improve skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis! [ii] Meaning a CBD oil massage could leave your skin hydrated. But it could also help heal painful skin conditions, leaving you with a healthy glow well after your massage is done!

Should I Get a CBD Oil Massage?

Now that we’ve talked about why CBD oil could boost massage benefits, we need to share an important reminder. Not everyone should get a massage. Especially if you have an injury or underlying health condition.

In some cases, a CBD oil massage MAY make you feel better. But, since there’s a chance of complicating your condition, talk to your doctor before booking an appointment. Be sure to review the specific procedure and masseuse you plan to work with. And mention that you’ll be asking for a CBD oil massage. (This is important since CBD can interact with certain medications.)

Got the all-clear from your primary health care provider? Great: get out there and book yourself a CBD oil massage. Or, for a more affordable option, make your own CBD massage oil using this recipe. Then get a friend or partner to help you get hands-on for your at-home, COVID-friendly spa day!

Making Your Own CBD Massage Oil

Take your existing massage oil and put in a jar. To the jar, add two-to-three full droppers of our 12Twenty 1000mg CBD Broad Spectrum Oil Tincture. Finally, customize with hemp flowers (if available). Or a few drops of your favorite essential oils.

(Note: Broad spectrum CBD already contains terpenes, which form the base of many therapeutic essential oils. So this step is completely optional.) Finally, let the mixture stand for at least an hour to allow for mixing. Then use, enjoy, and drop us a note in the comments to tell us about your CBD oil massage experience!
